The legal tradition of the MELO CAMPOS family dates back to 1923, when EZEQUIEL DE MELO CAMPOS, having graduated from the former Faculdade Livre de Direito, currently Faculdade de Direito da UFMG - Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais [Law School of the Federal University of Minas Gerais], was admitted to the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB/MG) under No. 006 and thus started his pioneering activity.

With a striking personality, he soon became well known in the legal community for his dedication as a lawyer for nearly seventy years.

His son, EZEQUIEL DE MELO CAMPOS FILHO, heir to his name and juridical verve, carried on his tradition with technical excellence and an accurate sense of justice.

Having graduated in 1967 from the Law School of UFMG, he was the class’s valedictorian and, as the best student throughout the entire law course, he was bestowed with “Rio Branco Medal”, the most important award conferred upon a student by the institution.

He went on to obtain a Doctor’s degree in the area of Criminology and Comparative Criminal Law in the same school, where he would later work as a professor of Constitutional Law, replacing the renowned and greatly missed Professor RAUL MACHADO HORTA.

Working most notably in the area of Public Law, Mr. Campos Filho has wide experience in the Higher Courts as well as in the country’s Superior and Supreme Courts.

An acknowledged expert and a former professor of tax law, he was one of the founders of the BRAZILIAN ASSOCIATION OF TAX LAW – ABRADT, and was the association’s first Deputy Chairman between 1996 and 2000.

EZEQUIEL DE MELO CAMPOS NETTO represents the third generation of lawyers of the MELO CAMPOS family. Having also graduated from the Law School of UFMG, he then completed his Master’s degree in Corporate Law. He is a former professor of Commercial Law as well as an expert on Corporate and Contract Law.

He is author of the book “Cisão das sociedades limitadas” ["Split-up of limited liability companies”] and co-author of the book “Direito de empresa no novo Código Civil” [“Company law in the new Civil Code”] both published by Forense publishing house, and is currently the President of the Legal Committee and member of the Advisory Board of the AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF MINAS GERAIS (AMCHAM). Moreover, he is the Chairman of the Brazil – Australia Official Chamber of Commerce – regional office of Minas Gerais, and Director of the Minas Gerais section of CESA – Center of Studies of Law Firms and of Fumsoft – Software Association of Minas Gerais.
